A few days ago the all new 2018 Jaguar E-Pace has been fully revealed and the car is just as impressive as we first thought. For starters, it comes with a new design which is likely going to be used on Jaguar’s future models. On top of that, it is Jaguar’s first car to use this platform and so far it looks to be as capable as its larger sibling. With it Jaguar also revealed the pricing and the availability for the car. It looks like the E-Pace will be available in showrooms from the first quarter of 2018. Its price will start at just under $40,000 for the base model and it will go up to north of $55,000. For now there is no high performance model but one may be released in the future.

In detail

The car is based on the same platform as the Evoque. However, it has a slightly longer wheelbase, it is slightly longer too and it has 8 extra centimeters of width. The car is also taller but thanks to its more aggressive proportions, it doesn’t really look like it. So far it looks like front wheel drive may be only available in Europe.

All the other markets are set to receive the all wheel drive models but more on that later. The interesting part is that the car will be built in Graz by Magna Steyr which are one of the best known SUV manufacturers in the world.

The design of Jaguar E-Pace

The manufacturer said the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace has its design based on the F-Type sports car and we would tend to agree. Even though the car is definitely different, it does share some design cues with the sports car. The front end boasts the same type of swept back headlights, large honeycomb grille and massive side air intakes.

The rear boasts nearly identical tail lights to the sports car and with the help of its sloping roof, really tall belt-line and aggressive lines down the sides of the car the E-Pace looks like nothing else on the road. Jaguar is also offering a sportier version which will boast twin exhausts, even more aggressive bumpers as well as a subtle roof spoiler which will complete the look. The range-topping “First Edition” model is likely going to receive a set of 20 inch rims unique to it as well as a couple of unique color choices.

Inside the cabin

Thanks to being larger, the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace boasts more space than its sibling. However, the car also offers a much sportier cabin with a really similar set of features and also similar build quality. The higher end models get a 12.3 inch instrument cluster as an option while a massive 10 inch navigation and infotainment system is offered as standard across the range.

Things like a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring or automated emergency braking are also offered on most models. In terms of materials, the dashboard is covered in stitched leather on the higher end models while materials like aluminum or wood may become available on some versions as well.

2018 Jaguar E-Pace Engine and Specs

For now, the 2018 E-Pace will be available with a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four gas engine. This will offer 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque on the base version of the car. The R-Dynamic model will boast 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from a really similar power-plant. Both of these will send the power to a ZF 9 speed automatic gearbox which will drive all four wheels as standard. However, the base model will get a full-time AWD system while the higher performance model will get a basic torque-vectoring system which should make things a lot more interesting.
